Earlier today, the Baden VFD responded to a call for a possible residential structure fire with reports of smoke showing from a basement door. Firefighters arrived to find that the fire had been put out and was smouldering.
Upon investigation, it was concluded that the electric window candle had malfunctioned and caught fire, and had spread to a window blind.
Fortunately, a neighbor was outside and saw the smoke and heard the smoke detectors. The resident was not home at the time of the incident.
If you use these electric candles, be sure to check the tags on the power cord, as most are only good for no more than 90 days of use. It is also recommended to unplug these candles before leaving home.
